A fun weekend in California

I am so glad that I had the opportunity this past weekend to go home to California. It was a 3-day weekend, so my friend Becca and I headed to my house. I surprised my family, all except for my mom, and I was surprised by TONS of drama too. But, it was a good weekend.
How many people can say that they went swimming on Valentine's Day? Well, I mean I'm sure there are people who live in Hawaii and other warm places that can say that they did, but Becca and I went swimming at my house. It was so much fun! Then we went to "the Boat" for Valentine's dinner with my mom. It was SOOOOO good. I cannot believe how much I've missed it. It was closed for 2 years, and just recently re-opened, and the food was just as good as I remembered it!
Sunday, we had church and my mom made a roast for dinner... TASTY! It's one of those things that you miss about home, because I would probably never make a roast on my own, but when my mom makes it.... Mmmmm! Then, we put all of my mom's Christmas decorations (I know, it's the middle of February, but my brother won't help her put them away, so she was waiting for me). After all of that, Becca and I went to the beach to walk along the pier and then to Downtown Disney. It was a really, really, really good weekend! I was bummed that I didn't get to see more of my friends, but oh well, next time!
On Monday, we got up at 7:00, so that we could leave and stop by my dad's house at 8:00. It was POURING down rain, so we were a little worried that the roads would be closed. Right before we left my dad's house, we found out that the Cajon Pass was closed. For those of you who don't drive in or out of southern California, that is the ONLY way to get back to Utah. We were a little freaked out that we wouldn't get back in time for school and work. So, my dad mapped out another way for us to go. It was going to take a LONG time the other way, but we would at least get home, right? NO, the way that we were going to go was around Big Bear and down the back side of the mountain. We got about half-way up the mountain and they stopped us and told us that we needed chains. I mean, we're Utah drivers, do we really need chains? Apparently the answer to that question is yes. Well, Becca has a Mini-Cooper and it is REALLY hard to find chains for her car, so we thought that we were STUCK in California. (You're probably thinking that couldn't be too bad, I mean it's California. But, when you need to get back for school and work, it's a bit of a problem.) When we realized that we wouldn't be able to go the back way, we headed back to the Cajon Pass, because we heard that it had opened up again. After about a 3-hour delay, we finally made it through the pass and were on our way home to Utah. A total of 12-hours (in the car) later, we were home in Provo.
It was an exciting and interesting trip, and much needed! I needed my family fix, and I think I'll be good until April. I'm glad to be back in Provo (even though there was a snow storm on Saturday and today, and there is still no snow). I'm hoping that these next 3 months of my life have LESS drama, and that everything goes as planned.
